Our mission today took us
into the Blue Mountains, called blue for reasons similar to the Great Smokies
and Blue Rdige Mountains having their names, haze, fog and stone color.
We had lunch en-route at
a nature preserve and had the opportunity to see an offspring of a “thought to
be extinct” pine tree; pretty exciting.
En-route to Katoomba we stopped
at several scenic overlooks with great views of the mountains, the grand canyon
of Australia and the Three Sisters, a famous local rock formation.

We were then
taken to our hotel, Lilianfels Resort and Spa. If you ask our travelers a month
from now about the trip, Lilianfels will likely be a highlight.

After check-in we were ready for “high tea” or as would be for some of us, “high beer”, “high Bloody Marys”, “high wine”, you get the picture. The tee, I mean tea setting was pleasant; a great room decked out in what some would term “Old English” furnishings and appointments.

After some downtime we returned to the great room for a light dinner, after all we had just completed the “tea” course a couple of hours earlier. Anyway, for our light dinner we had a variety of entree’s but clearly the one that got our attention was the $34 bacon cheeseburger. That’s right, $34 for a burger, a very good burger, but a burger just the same. The food and service were first class and all agreed that the choice of Lilianfels was a good one. Following dessert, including some really good chocolate chocolate chip ice cream and after dinner drinks, our day was done.
