Day 8 & Day 9: Kangaroo Island

Monday, Feb 13th & Tuesday, Feb 14th

On Monday morning we departed for a short flight from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island and the Southern Ocean Lodge arriving in time for lunch. Landing at Kingscote is interesting as the airfield has one paved runway and two dirt runways.

At the lodge we met up with about 20 other people, most of whom were on a three month Los Angeles to Los Angeles (via, Hawaii, New Caledonia, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Alaska) cruise.

The lodge is "all-inclusive" and covers rooms, 24/7 open bar, three meals a day and availability of two or three tours each day to the cliff walks, kangaroo hang-outs, lighthouses, seal beaches, etc. Due to the remote location, the lodge is relatively self sufficient having it's own solar and diesel power generators, a desalinization plant and a large rain water collection system.

We will let our pictures describe the two days on Kangaroo Island and at the lodge.

  1. Great photos Nick! Can you bring back one of those cute little koalas? I think he'd be a great KHL mascot!
